Warri Diocese Announces Death of Rev. Fr. Anthony Ozele
The Catholic Diocese of Warri has announced the death of the Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Mario Ozele, Episcopal Vicar of the Ughelli Pastoral Region and Parish Priest of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ughelli.
Ozele, aged 60, died in the early hours of Tuesday, September 15, 2026, following an illness.
The Diocese announced his death in a notification signed by the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Jude Nwabukekei.
According to the statement, Ozele faced his illness with faith and courage before his death.
The Diocese described the late priest as a revered and devoted clergyman who served the Church until his final days.

“It is with profound sorrow and total submission to the will of God that I announce to you,” the statement said, before confirming Ozele’s death.
Ozele served as Episcopal Vicar of the Ughelli Pastoral Region while also leading Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church as parish priest.
The Diocese addressed the announcement to its priests, religious members and lay faithful.
It urged the Catholic community to pray for the late priest, his family and the Diocese.
“We commend his soul to the mercy of God and implore you to keep him, the Diocese, and his immediate family in your prayers,” the notification added.

The Diocese said details of Ozele’s funeral would be announced later.
Nwabukekei also encouraged the faithful to continue praying for the deceased priest.
The notification was issued from the Diocesan Secretariat in Effurun, Warri, on the directive of the Bishop of Warri Diocese, Most Rev. Anthony Ovayero Ewhierido.
Ozele’s death has left the Ughelli Catholic community mourning a priest who served as both parish priest and Episcopal Vicar until his passing.
