Olu Jacobs: Gratitude to God for a Life Well Lived

Veteran Nigerian actor and Nollywood legend, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

His family announced his death on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, describing the veteran actor as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

In the statement announcing his passing, the family expressed gratitude to God for his life.

“It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought,” the family said, describing Jacobs as “The Lion of Lufodo.”

The statement gave his date of birth as July 11, 1942, and his date of death as September 16, 2026. The family also appealed to bloggers and social media influencers to respect their privacy as they mourn.

                                            A Legacy That Spanned Generations

Olu Jacobs leaves behind a career that spanned theatre, television and film.

He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before working in British theatre and television. He later returned to Nigeria, where he became one of the most recognisable figures in the country’s film industry.

Over the decades, Jacobs appeared in many Nigerian and international productions, becoming known for authoritative roles as fathers, elders and traditional rulers.

His contribution to the entertainment industry earned him several honours, including the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).

With his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, Jacobs was involved in the Lufodo Group and helped develop Nigeria’s performing arts.
