Dunsin Oyekan Reveals How God Redirected Him Into Music Ministry

Minister Dunsin Oyekan has revealed how he abandoned plans for a career in industrial chemistry and the oil sector after what he described as divine direction toward music ministry.

Oyekan said he had initially mapped out a professional career in chemicals and oil. He had also obtained his DPR licence as part of his plans to enter the industry.

However, after several of his plans failed, the minister said he turned to God for direction. He recalled praying, “Lord, I give up. What do You want?”

According to Oyekan, he subsequently received an instruction that his financial provision would come through music.

He also said he was instructed to use part of his earnings to purchase a piano, despite primarily seeing himself as a bass player. “That piano will become your altar,” Oyekan recalled being told.

He said he later had the opportunity to purchase an upright piano from an expatriate who was leaving the country. The amount requested for the instrument, he noted, was exactly what he had saved.

For about a year, Oyekan said the piano became a private place of worship and fellowship with God. “I would sit down on this upright piano and start to minister to the Lord,” he recalled.

According to him, several songs that later became part of his ministry were birthed during those private moments. He said he was not focused on recording music at the time.

Oyekan also recalled a defining moment when he was asked to lead worship at a meeting after the scheduled worship leader failed to arrive.

He said he soon noticed a significant change in the atmosphere as he ministered. “I said, this is more than just leading,” he recalled.

Oyekan said the season of private worship eventually became a foundation for the music ministry he is known for today.

Reflecting on his journey, he said his greatest desire remains being in God’s presence. “Till today, till Jesus comes, my best place is in the presence.”
