TOPIC: GREATER JOY
MEMORISE:
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth*
(3 John 4).
READ: 3 John 1-4
1. The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
2. Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
EXPOSITION
For the past few days, we have been reflecting on John’s epistles and encouraging greater commitment to God’s Word. In 3 John, John writes warmly to Gaius, a beloved friend. He begins by expressing his affection and praying for Gaius’s physical and spiritual well-being. However, the core of the letter lies in John’s immense joy upon hearing about Gaius’s faithfulness (v. 4). This reveals a powerful truth: true joy is found in seeing others live out their faith. For John, this joy is deep and enduring, far surpassing any earthly pleasures, as it stems from the eternal value of spiritual growth and integrity.
Walking in the truth means living according to Christ’s teachings, marked by love, integrity and devotion to God. For spiritual leaders, like John, witnessing their followers grow in the faith brings unparalleled fulfilment. This message challenges us to reflect on what gives us true joy. While the world values material success, John reminds us that real joy comes from nurturing the faith of others. Let us, like Gaius, live faithfully and find joy in promoting spiritual growth.

SUGGESTED HYMNS FOR TODAY:
CACGHB: HYMN 906
1. Rescue the perishing, Care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave
Weep o’er the erring one, Lift up the fallen,
Tell them of Jesus the Mighty to save,
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying;
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.
2. Though they are slighting Him still
He is waiting,
Waiting the penitent child to receive,
Plead with them earnestly,
Plead with them gently:
He will forgive if they only believe.
3. Down in the human heart,Crush’d by the tempter
Feelings lie buried that grace can restore:
Touch’d by a loving hand,
Waken’d by kindness,
Chords that were broken will
vibrate once more.
4. Rescue the perishing duty demands it;
Strength for thy labour the Lord will provide:
Back to the narrow way Patiently win them;
Tell the poor wand’rer a Saviour had died.
Amen.
