CANAN US Urges President Tinubu to Protect Rev. Dachomo

The Christian Association of Nigerian Americans, CANAN, has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide immediate security for Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo after reports of fresh threats to his life.

CANAN Chairman, Dr Banjo Olaniyan, made the appeal in a letter sent to the President. He also shared copies with journalists in Jos. According to him, the request followed the killing of nine members of Reverend Dachomo’s extended family during an attack on Kum and Wereng Camp communities in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State in July.

Olaniyan said the victims lost their lives during an attack by armed bandits. He described the incident as another painful reminder of the insecurity facing many communities across the country. He added that many families now live in fear because attackers often strike without facing justice.

Furthermore, Olaniyan said Reverend Dachomo, a senior leader in the Church of Christ in Nations, has spoken publicly about the tragedy. Soon after, he reportedly received a written death threat. According to CANAN, members of his church also received similar threats, and security agencies already have copies of the letter.

The group urged the Federal Government to treat the threats as a serious security matter. It said no Nigerian should fear death for speaking about the suffering of their community or calling attention to violence.

Olaniyan also called on the President to provide security for Reverend Dachomo, his family, his church, and others who may be at risk. He stressed that early action could prevent another tragedy.

In addition, CANAN said security measures alone would not solve the problem. The group explained that many affected families have lost loved ones, homes, farms, and sources of income because of repeated attacks.

Therefore, it appealed to the Federal Government, in partnership with the Plateau State Government and local authorities, to establish an emergency relief and reconstruction programme. According to CANAN, such support would help victims rebuild their lives and restore hope to communities affected by violence.
