TOPIC: TELL THE KING (I)

 

MEMORISE

So the matter became known to Mordecai, who told Queen Esther, and Esther informed the king in Mordecai’s name (Esther 2:22).

 

READ: Esther 2:17-22

[17] The king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins; so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.

 

[18] Then the king made a great feast, the Feast of Esther, for all his officials and servants; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces and gave gifts according to the generosity of a king.

 

[19] When virgins were gathered together a second time, Mordecai sat within the king’s gate.

 

[20] Now Esther had not revealed her family and her people, just as Mordecai had charged her, for Esther obeyed the command of Mordecai as when she was brought up by him.

 

[21] In those days, while Mordecai sat within the king’s gate, two of the king’s eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, doorkeepers, became furious and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus.

 

[22] So the matter became known to Mordecai, who told Queen Esther, and Esther informed the king in Mordecai’s name.

 

EXPOSITION

Exposing evil deeds and doing the work of a talebearer are not the same. The former is a biblical injunction; Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness but rather expose them (Eph. 5: 11 NIV) while the latter circulates rumours that are either distortions of truth or outright lies with the intention to do mischief (cf. Lev 19:16; Prov. 6:16: 19). Mordecai was not sitting in the seat of the scornful (Ps. 11). Rather, he was on duty at the king’s gate (v. 21 NLT)

PREVIOUS DEVOTIONAL

Some information comes to us at our duty posts. How we handle them shows where we belong a shining light (Eph. 5:13) or a talebearer. While Queen Esther did not hijack the information in her name, Mordecai was not afraid that the information would be delivered in his name (v. 22). On the side of the recipient, Enquiry was made into the matter and it was confirmed. How do you handle reports from your end?

Talebearers would not want their names to be mentioned neither do they want the report to be investigated. All they want, is to gain cheap favour from their listener or to tarnish the image of the person being reported for their own selfish interests. While some information needs our prayers (Gen. 18:22ff), some need to be passed to the appropriate quarters for necessary action.

 

PRAYER POINTS

1. I shall be a shining light and not a talebearer, in Jesus’ name.

 

2. Lord Jesus, expose every godless handiwork of talebearers to punitive expose and help them repent.

 

3. Pray for the finance department of the Church, the Finance Director and staff, as led by the Holy Spirit.
