Sam Adeyemi Urges Better Leadership Preparation in Nigeria

Nigeria needs leaders who understand the demands of public responsibility before taking up positions of authority, according to the Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Pastor Sam Adeyemi.

The cleric raised the concern while unveiling plans for the church’s 2026 Excellence in Leadership Conference (ELC). The annual gathering will hold on November 5 and 6 at the church auditorium in Oregun, Lagos.

Adeyemi observed that many individuals who eventually occupy influential positions have little exposure to structured leadership education. He warned that Nigeria’s economic and social difficulties make proper leadership preparation increasingly important.

He illustrated the uncertainty surrounding political appointments and public office, noting that future governors and senators could emerge from unexpected backgrounds without adequate leadership knowledge.

Adeyemi said political appointments often come unexpectedly, adding that many Nigerians who assume leadership roles have little or no formal training Im leadership

The pastor encouraged Nigerians to participate in the forthcoming conference, describing it as an opportunity to acquire knowledge that could influence their personal development and professional progress.

This year’s edition will examine the theme, “Leading in Uncertainty.” Adeyemi and his wife, Nike Adeyemi, who jointly organise the conference, said the programme would address the difficulties of making sound decisions in an unpredictable environment.

They explained that constant changes in economic conditions, the rising cost of living and shifting government policies influenced the selection of the theme. Developments in the workplace and the approaching election period also informed the decision.

The couple said the sessions would focus on helping participants maintain direction despite difficult circumstances. They added that attendees would learn practical approaches to making decisions, responding to unexpected developments and identifying opportunities during uncertain periods.

Reflecting on previous editions, the organisers said several attendees had reported positive changes in their professional and business activities after applying lessons from the conference.

They expressed hope that the 2026 gathering would further equip individuals with the knowledge and confidence needed to handle leadership responsibilities across different sectors.

The Excellence in Leadership Conference remains one of Daystar Christian Centre’s initiatives for promoting leadership development and encouraging individuals to make meaningful contributions to society.
