RCCG Clarifies Pastor Adeboye’s Stance on Protests

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed circulating claims about the political position of its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, as well as allegations linking him to a cancelled protest and suggestions that he has been silent on national issues.

In a statement published on Tuesday via the Church’s official Public Relations X account, RCCG clarified that Pastor Adeboye has consistently encouraged members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and take part in elections by freely choosing candidates of their preference.

The Church stressed that the cleric has maintained a non-partisan stance. It noted that RCCG members belong to different political backgrounds, and that Adeboye has repeatedly urged them to exercise their civic rights responsibly without political bias.

Responding to reports that he stopped a planned protest, the Church described the claim as inaccurate. It explained that Pastor Adeboye only conveyed a directive from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria regarding a change in arrangement for a three-day prayer programme. According to RCCG, the adjustment involved relocating the grand finale to a central venue and organizing a peaceful rally within the designated area.

The statement added that the directive originated from the PFN and was communicated to affiliated churches nationwide, not as a personal decision by the General Overseer.

RCCG also rejected claims that Pastor Adeboye has been silent on national challenges. It stated that the cleric has, on several occasions, spoken on issues such as insecurity, corruption, governance, elections, and economic hardship, often through sermons, prayers, and moral guidance.

The Church explained that his approach to national matters is rooted in spiritual counsel rather than political confrontation or partisan commentary.

It further cautioned against what it described as misleading narratives about both the Church and its leadership, insisting that such claims distort public understanding of RCCG’s position.

The Church urged members of the public to rely only on official RCCG communication channels for accurate information. It also warned that people should not accept unverified statements attributed to its leadership as official positions.

RCCG also called on journalists, bloggers, and content creators to verify information before publication. It stressed that responsible reporting is essential in preventing the spread of misinformation about religious leaders and institutions.

The statement emphasized that accuracy remains critical in public discourse, adding that both the Church and Pastor Adeboye deserve fair and factual representation.

It concluded with a reminder for the public to verify information before sharing it, urging a culture of fact-checking and accuracy in all reporting.
