Pastor Adeboye Urges Nigerians to Pray, Rejoice Against Anxiety

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Nigerians to make rejoicing, prayer and thanksgiving part of their daily lives.

Adeboye said the three practices can help believers deal with anxiety, pressure and the challenges of everyday life. The cleric spoke during a service at the RCCG headquarters in Lagos on Sunday.

His remarks were contained in a report by Church Times Nigeria, retrieved on Monday. Speaking from 1 Thessalonians 5:16–17, Adeboye encouraged believers to begin each day with joy and gratitude.

He urged Christians to leave past troubles behind and focus on God’s faithfulness. “When you wake up every morning, rejoice. Praise God. Start your day on a positive note of rejoicing,” Adeboye said.

The RCCG leader also advised believers against allowing fear of the future to dominate their lives. He said those who trust God should remain confident about what lies ahead. “If I am not where I am by my ability, why should I worry about tomorrow? He took care of me yesterday; He will take care of me tomorrow,” he said.

Adeboye also encouraged Christians to turn to prayer instead of allowing their problems to overwhelm them. He urged believers to present their concerns to God and maintain a consistent prayer life.

“Pray always. Make your requests known to God. Rather than worry over your problems, pray about them,” he said. The cleric said prayer gives believers an avenue to involve God in their circumstances.

Adeboye further urged Christians to give thanks regardless of their situations. He said difficult circumstances should not determine their attitude towards God. “In everything give thanks. Don’t allow your circumstances to affect your life,” he said.

The service also focused on judges and lawyers, during which Adeboye spoke about Christian advocacy. He referenced Romans 8:31 while describing Jesus Christ as the believer’s advocate before God.

Adeboye said Christ’s advocacy is different from that of any human lawyer because He accepts responsibility for the guilty.

“He is the only advocate who goes to the judge and says, ‘My client is guilty as charged. But release him and take me instead,’” he said. The cleric said Christ gave Himself for humanity, highlighting the Christian belief in His sacrificial death.
