Actress Juliana Olayode Backs Clerics Amid Insecurity Criticism

Actress Juliana Olayode has reacted to the ongoing criticism directed at Nigerian clergymen over their perceived silence on the country’s insecurity situation.

In posts shared on Instagram, she stated that she expected her opinion to receive backlash from the public.

She agreed that religious leaders such as pastors, imams, sheikhs, and other figures of influence should speak on national concerns. However, she maintained that pastors should not be seen as activists.

According to her, pastors function under divine instruction and carry a spiritual duty before God. She explained that their calling does not always require public statements or reactions on social media.

Olayode also referenced scripture, noting that God’s servants in the Bible did not always address national crises through public declarations. Instead, she said their assignments often involved prayer, intercession, counsel, and private engagement with those in authority when led.

She acknowledged that some people have become disillusioned with pastors due to negative experiences involving individuals who acted wrongly under the name of God. At the same time, she stressed that there are still sincere ministers who serve faithfully and uphold integrity.

The actress cautioned against equating silence online with inaction. She said visibility on social media does not always reflect real effort or concern.

In her remarks, she added that she understood she might be criticized for her stance. She maintained that while spiritual leaders can speak on issues when necessary, their primary assignment is not public activism. She also pointed out that influence and responsibility are shared across different faith leaders in society.

Olayode further explained that pastors remain human, yet operate under spiritual authority and are accountable to God. She added that, according to scripture, responses to national issues often came through prayer, intercession, counsel, and private guidance rather than public commentary alone.

Her comments have continued to spark discussions online, as conversations around the responsibility of religious leaders in national matters remain active among Nigerians.
