Gospel Singer and Evangelist G A Idowu Aworinde Dies at 65

Nigeria’s gospel music community is mourning the death of renowned Yoruba gospel singer and evangelist, G.A. Idowu Aworinde, who reportedly died on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the age of 65.

Naija News reported that Aworinde was widely recognised for his Christian songs, evangelical ministry and contributions to Yoruba gospel music.

The late evangelist was visually impaired, yet he built a lasting reputation through his music and Christian ministry. His work reached many Christian families across Nigeria.

Church Gist announced his death in a post, prompting tributes from people who knew his music and ministry.

Aworinde became known for blending traditional Yoruba musical styles with Christian teachings. Through his songs, he communicated messages about faith, prayer and devotion to God.

His music reflected the cultural heritage of the Yoruba people while maintaining a strong Christian message. Over the years, his songs became familiar among worshippers and gospel music lovers.

The late singer also worked with Victory Voices Spiritual Singers. Through the group, he performed and produced several gospel songs that gained recognition among Yoruba Christians.

Some of his notable songs included Mo Ki Obi Mi, Jesu Nikan Lo Ku Mi Ku L’aiye, Talotobe and Adura Owuro.

His songs addressed different aspects of Christian life. They touched on prayer, praise, faith, family and reliance on God.

Aworinde’s music also connected with older generations of Yoruba Christians. Several of his songs continued to feature in homes and worship settings.

His ministry demonstrated how gospel music can preserve cultural traditions while communicating Christian teachings. His use of Yoruba language and indigenous musical styles helped make his message accessible to many listeners.
