Pastor Tola Odutola Urges Fathers to Take Role in Parenting

Pastor Tola Odutola has urged fathers to become more involved in raising their children, stressing that childcare should not rest solely on mothers.

Speaking on family responsibilities, Odutola questioned the attitude of men who complain about bathing or dressing their children. He said fathers should see such tasks as part of their responsibilities as parents.

According to him, caring for children should not appear unusual simply because the father is handling the task. He encouraged men to participate in activities such as bathing, dressing and preparing their children for the day.

Odutola said there is no rule requiring wives to handle every aspect of childcare. He maintained that fathers should take pride in caring for their children and supporting their spouses.

He also reminded parents that the demanding years of raising children are temporary. As children grow, he noted, they become increasingly independent and spend less time with their parents.

The pastor pointed out that grown children may eventually have careers, relationships and other responsibilities that limit their availability for family activities.

He therefore encouraged parents to value the present stage of their children’s lives instead of constantly complaining about the demands of parenting.

Odutola urged fathers and mothers to enjoy the time they have with their children because those moments may not last forever. He noted that children can reach adulthood sooner than parents expect.

“These things don’t last forever. Before you know it, your kids are 18 and they are out of the house,” he said.
