Church Leaders Should Avoid Political Endorsements-Dr Yomi-Sholoye

The Founder of The New Seraph Evangelical Ministries Worldwide and Iya Aladura General, Dr Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, has urged religious leaders to remain neutral in politics and protect the spiritual integrity of the church. He made the call during the eighth edition of the Night of Divine Experience in Ogun State on Friday.

The cleric warned against using the pulpit to endorse political parties or candidates. She said the church should maintain its spiritual responsibilities regardless of political interests.

According to Yomi-Sholoye, religious leaders must promote biblical values, justice and responsible leadership while offering guidance to people across political divides.

She stressed that the pulpit should not become a platform for partisan campaigns or political propaganda.

“Our calling as spiritual leaders is to speak truth to power and shepherd our communities with fairness and impartiality,” she said.

The cleric also condemned vote-buying and other forms of voter inducement. She urged Nigerians to choose leaders based on competence, character and proven records rather than financial rewards.

Yomi-Sholoye specifically urged eligible voters in Osun State to carefully assess candidates ahead of the governorship election.

She noted that several contenders had previously occupied public offices. Their past performances, she said, should therefore form part of voters’ considerations.

“Before casting your ballot, thoroughly examine every candidate’s past administrative performance, public leadership history, and proposed plans for Osun State,” she said.

The religious leader urged voters to examine the policies and leadership records of all candidates before making their decisions.

She added that voters should support individuals capable of providing effective governance and delivering meaningful development.

Yomi-Sholoye maintained that the church has a responsibility to guide society without becoming an instrument for partisan political interests.
