Church Urges Youths, Christians to Join Politics
According to VANGUARDNG,the Church of the Lord (TCL) Worldwide has called on Nigerian Christians, especially youths, to actively participate in politics and governance as part of efforts to promote integrity, accountability, and national transformation.
The church made the call during its Annual General Conference, held from May 4 to May 10, 2026, at its Ecumenical Centre and International Headquarters in Ogere-Remo, Ogun State. The message reflects growing concern within the Christian community about leadership, national development, and civic responsibility.
During the conference, church leaders stressed that credible Christians and young people must not remain passive in political affairs but should engage constructively in shaping governance systems. According to the communiqué issued at the event, active participation in politics is necessary to strengthen justice, accountability, and moral leadership in society.
The conference also addressed major national challenges, including insecurity, economic instability, unemployment, and educational decline.
Leaders at the gathering noted that Nigeria’s development depends on morally upright and visionary citizens. They stressed that democratic processes improve when people of integrity take leadership roles.
They added that governance becomes more effective when such individuals contribute positively to national decision-making. The conference also encouraged religious leaders to promote peace, tolerance, and interfaith dialogue. This is especially important in regions experiencing tension.

The church also urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to national development despite ongoing challenges. It called for stronger collaboration between government institutions, health agencies, and international organizations such as the World Health Organization to improve preparedness for future health emergencies.
Recommendations were also made for increased investment in healthcare infrastructure, medical research, and disease surveillance systems.
In his address, Primate Rufus Ositelu encouraged believers to remain steadfast in faith, uphold righteousness, and trust in divine guidance in all circumstances. He reinforced the belief that spiritual commitment should go hand in hand with active contribution to societal progress.
The message from the conference highlights a broader conversation within faith communities about the role of Christians in governance. It reinforces the idea that civic participation is not separate from faith, but part of the responsibility of believers to influence society positively.
Ultimately, the church’s position underscores the importance of Christian youth involvement in politics in Nigeria as a means of promoting ethical leadership and national transformation.
