Bishop Oyedepo Says Sports Betting Won’t Bring Wealth
The founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has warned young Nigerians against depending on sports betting to achieve financial success. According to Vanguard, he urged them to embrace diligence, patience and godly principles instead of gambling.
Bishop Oyedepo said betting offers false hope and can rob young people of their future. He encouraged them to focus on productive work and avoid shortcuts that promise quick wealth.
He told the congregation that true prosperity comes through commitment and consistent effort. He stressed that lasting success cannot be built on gambling or luck.
“Young people, sports betting is not the path to financial success. Don’t throw away your future chasing quick money. Stay focused and build your life the right way,” he said.
The cleric acknowledged that progress may seem slow at times. He, however, assured young people that genuine success comes to those who remain patient and stay committed to the right course.
He said, “Your progress may not happen overnight, but if you stay on the right path, your reward will surely come.”

Bishop Oyedepo also reflected on his personal journey of faith. He recalled how he honoured the woman who introduced him to Christ by presenting her with a car many years later as an expression of gratitude.
He said the woman led him to Christ when he was 15 years old. He explained that when he turned 60, he had a vehicle delivered to her in the United States. He added that the gesture brought her to tears.
He encouraged believers never to forget those who played important roles in their spiritual growth. He said gratitude remains a vital Christian virtue that should never be ignored.
His message comes as concerns continue to grow over the increasing popularity of sports betting among young Nigerians. Religious leaders and social commentators have repeatedly warned about the financial and social consequences of gambling addiction.
