Pastor Adeboye Says Terrorism Reached His Doorstep

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has expressed concern over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity. He said terrorism and kidnapping are no longer confined to the North but have spread to communities in the South.

Pastor Adeboye spoke during the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organized by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., on June 23. A video of his speech was later shared on Eagles Online’s YouTube channel.

He said the security situation has become worse in recent years. According to him, violent attacks that were once common in the North are now affecting places in the South, including areas close to him. He also claimed that those behind the crimes are known but have not been brought to justice.

Despite his concerns, Adeboye said President Bola Tinubu alone is not responsible for the country’s security challenges. He said the President has issued directives to the security agencies. He added that military and security commanders must carry out those orders.

To explain his point, he used the United States as an example. He said presidents give commands while military officers handle the actual operations.

Adeboye also revealed that he had discussed the issue with President Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. During the meeting, he advised the President to give military leaders a 90-day deadline to defeat terrorists or step down from their positions.

He further said the government should not focus only on arresting armed criminals. According to him, those who finance terrorism should also be identified and prosecuted, no matter how influential they are.

The cleric added that some of the sponsors of insecurity are businessmen and politicians. He warned that the security crisis would continue unless authorities hold accountable those who provide money, weapons, and support to terrorists.

Pastor Adeboye ended his remarks by calling on the United States and other friendly countries to work more closely with Nigeria in the fight against terrorism. He said stronger international cooperation would help improve security and bring lasting peace to the country.
