Pastor Oritsejafor Opens Up on Cancer Battle
Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, founder of Word of Life Bible Church and former president of the Christian Association of Nigeria, has shared details of his private battle with cancer and the difficult months he spent receiving treatment in the United States.
The cleric revealed that he kept his illness away from the public while continuing his ministry work in Nigeria. Despite the severe pain, he said he remained active in church activities and continued helping people around him.
In a video shared on his Instagram page and monitored by Vanguard Newspaper, Oritsejafor encouraged believers to remain strong during difficult times and continue supporting others even when life becomes challenging.
According to him, doctors first informed him that cancer had been discovered in his body. However, after travelling to the United States for further checks, medical experts reportedly told him the cancer was not advanced enough for immediate treatment and advised him to return after three months.
After returning to Nigeria, the pastor said he continued attending church programmes, including the church’s annual Jubilee Celebration. During that period, he said he endured constant pain while still carrying out his ministerial duties.

However, shortly after the celebration ended, the pain became worse. As a result, he travelled back to the United States for more medical attention.
Oritsejafor explained that doctors later carried out tests to determine whether the cancer had spread to his bones. Fortunately, the result showed no trace of cancer in his bones, which brought him relief.
The pastor also disclosed that his medical treatment cost about $120,000. He said he initially planned to travel alone because he wanted privacy during the process. Yet, his personal assistant, Bayo, insisted on following him to America at his own expense.
According to him, Bayo decision later became very important because he spent several months receiving treatment and needed support throughout the difficult period.
A few days after surgery, Oritsejafor said he developed a serious infection that forced doctors to move him to the emergency room. Medical experts reportedly struggled to identify the infection and searched for possible treatment options.
He recalled that one of the doctors warned that reopening the surgical wound could be dangerous. Eventually, doctors introduced experimental antibiotics. While the first medication failed, the second reportedly began working after four days.
During his stay in the hospital, strict medical rules limited access to his room. Still, Oritsejafor said Bayo refused to leave his side despite the risks and hospital instructions.
The pastor also shared a lighter moment from his recovery period. He said one doctor allowed him to eat anything he wanted to help him regain strength. Excited by the permission, he decided to eat pork. However, Bayo informed the doctor, who later stopped the request.
Oritsejafor said the experience taught him the value of loyalty, patience and faith during hard times. He urged Christians and supporters never to stop helping others, even when they face personal struggles.
