CAN Urges Government to Deliver Good Governance

The Christian Association of Nigeria has urged Nigerians to make mercy, compassion, justice and peaceful coexistence part of their daily lives as Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Maulud.

The CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, made the call in an Eid-el-Maulud message on Tuesday. He congratulated Muslims across the country and prayed for peace and blessings for their families and communities.

Okoh said the celebration of the birth of the Prophet of Islam offered Muslims and Nigerians an opportunity to reflect on values linked to his life. These include mercy, justice, compassion for the poor and vulnerable, honesty and peaceful coexistence.

He said, “For us as Nigerians, these values are especially important today because they challenge us to care for one another, protect human dignity and pursue peace even when our differences are exploited for political or personal gain.”

The CAN president said the celebration took place amid difficult economic and security conditions affecting many Nigerians .Rising living costs and insecurity continue to affect households and communities across the country.

“People are tired of promises; they want to see their lives improve,” he said.

Okoh urged the Federal Government and leaders at all levels to move beyond promises and take visible action. He said Nigerians needed better security, economic relief and leadership focused on their welfare.

“Leadership is not measured by what we promise, but by what Nigerians can see and feel,” he said.

He also urged politicians not to exploit religious or ethnic differences for political advantage ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, elections will come and go, but the bonds that hold Nigeria together must remain.

Okoh called on Christians and Muslims to reject attempts to divide them for political gain. He said both groups have a shared responsibility to protect their communities, support vulnerable Nigerians and promote peace.

The CAN president said he was still optimistic about Nigeria’s future. However, he noted that such hope must come with “responsible leadership, good citizenship and justice.”

He prayed that the Eid-el-Maulud celebration would strengthen Nigerians’ commitment to mercy, peace and compassion while inspiring efforts to build a country where everyone can live with dignity and hope.

Okoh wished Muslims across the country an “Eid-el-Maulud Mubarak” and prayed for God’s blessings upon Nigeria.
