Troops Kill 8 ISWAP Fighters in Borno Ambush

Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have recorded another major success in the ongoing counter terrorism operations, neutralising eight fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.

The operation took place in the early hours of Wednesday, September 15, 2025, during an ambush near Garin Giwa, along the Baga Cross Kauwa Main Supply Route in Kukawa Local Government Area, located in the Northern Borno Senatorial District approximately 180 kilometers from Maiduguri, the state capital.

According to security sources, the terrorists had attempted to disrupt military operations in the area but were met with a swift and forceful response from the troops. During the exchange of gunfire, eight ISWAP fighters were killed, including two senior operatives identified as Modu Dogo Munzir of Dogon Chukun and Abu Aisha Qaid of Tumbun Mota. Another unidentified Munzir was also among those neutralised.

Several other insurgents reportedly sustained gunshot wounds and managed to flee the scene on foot. In the aftermath of the clash, troops recovered 14 motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists, significantly hampering the group’s mobility and logistics capabilities in the region.

A reliable security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development and praised the troops for their effective combat response.

“The military high command has commended the troops for this remarkable feat and urged them to maintain the momentum in the fight against terrorism, despite the challenging terrain and hostile threats,” the source said.

Operation HADIN KAI continues to make gains in its mission to eliminate terrorist threats and restore peace to communities across the North East.
