MEMORISE
Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10).

READ: Psalm 46:10; Mark 1:35.

Psalm 46: 10

[10] Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Mark 1:35

[35] Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.

EXPOSITION

The reflective power of silence can stimulate and create space for creative thought and spiritual growth. Creative innovation also stems from stillness and contemplation. It is not just about avoiding noisy surroundings but developing inner stillness to hear from God. Jesus often withdrew to quiet places to pray and connect with His Father (Mk 1:35). If the Son of God needed such moments, how much more do we? (cf. Psa. 46:10). In silence, we set aside distractions, allowing God’s voice to guide us.

In our busy lives, silence helps us refocus and reconnect with God. Isaiah 30:15 says, In quietness and confidence shall be your strength. Like a lion that moves silently and with purpose while hunting, we too should live with calm determination, guided by God’s steady voice.

Silence is not just spiritual but also physical therapy. It lowers stress, improves focus, and promotes overall well-being. Ecclesiastes 3:7 teaches that there is a time to keep silence. In our fast-paced world, creating moments of quietness strengthens us spiritually, mentally, and physically. By embracing silence, we allow God to shape our hearts and guide our steps.

PREVIOUS DEVOTIONAL

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CACGHB: 450

1. Master, speak! Thy servant heareth,
Waiting for Thy gracious word
Longing for Thy voice that cheereth;
Master! Let it now be heard.
I am list’ning, Lord, for thee;
What hast Thou to say to me?

2. Speak to me by name, O Master,
Let me know it is to me;
Speak, that I may follow faster,
With a step more firm and free,
Where the shepherd leads the flock,
In the shadow of the Rock.

3. Master, speak! Though least and lowest,
Let me not unheard depart;
Master, speak! For o Thou knowest
All the yearning of my heart,
Knowest all its truest need;
Speak! And make me blest indeed.

4. Master, speak! And make me ready,
When Thy voice is truly heard,
With obedience glad and steady
Still to follow every word.
I am listening, Lord for thee;
Master, speak! O speak to me!

Amen.
