He said both cases happened in April in different locations, raising concern about unsafe childbirth practices.
In the first case, a woman identified as Elizabeth Aremu allegedly posed as a midwife at a private residence in Akure. A pregnant woman, Mrs Bawa Blessing, went there to give birth. However, she developed complications shortly after delivery. Sadly, she died before she could get proper medical help.
During the investigation, police officers visited the residence. They discovered the body of the newborn wrapped in a sack. As a result, officers arrested Aremu at the scene.

Meanwhile, a second incident occurred earlier in the month in Emure Ile, located in Owo Local Government Area. A young woman, Genifer Sunday, was taken to a church while in labor. A prophetess, Blessing Effiong, allegedly handled the delivery.

Authorities have since moved the bodies of the victims to the morgue for autopsy at the State Specialist Hospital and the Federal Medical Centre. Investigations are ongoing as police work to uncover what went wrong in both situations.
Furthermore, the police urged the public to be cautious. They advised pregnant women and families to seek care from trained and licensed health professionals. They also warned against using unverified individuals or places for childbirth.
