Don’t Harass God With Age or Fasting-Bishop Oyedepo
Bishop David Oyedepo has urged Christians to move beyond hearing God’s Word and apply its teachings to their daily lives. Oyedepo said believers may receive the same teachings but record different results because they respond to them differently.
He made the remarks during a recent interaction with believers. “We all write the same notes, but why are there different results? Because of different levels of engagement,” he said.
The cleric urged Christians to take what they learn seriously, whether from church services, personal Bible study or Christian books and other spiritual materials. He said believers must deliberately commit themselves to applying the lessons they receive.
“Please engage with the things He teaches you in your privacy, what He teaches you in church services, what He teaches you through books and materials. Commit to it,” Oyedepo said.
According to him, spiritual teachings produce results when believers respond through commitment and obedience.
He likened the varying outcomes to different levels of fruitfulness. Some believers may produce thirtyfold, sixtyfold or a hundredfold, while others may see little or no change.

Oyedepo expressed concern about people who remain exposed to spiritual teachings without showing corresponding changes in their lives. “I’m bothered to see things happening in a number of lives and nothing happens to others, and they’re always there,” he said.
The bishop also cautioned Christians against relying on their age or spiritual activities as reasons for expecting God to act according to their demands. “Don’t use age to harass God; He is the Ancient of Days,” he said. He similarly warned against treating fasting as a way to pressure God.
“Don’t use fasting to harass God. He has never eaten, so there are no credentials in your hand that make any demand of God,” Oyedepo said. The cleric urged believers to focus instead on following God’s instructions.
He said obedience, rather than personal sacrifices or spiritual credentials, should guide their relationship with God. “Just obey Him,” Oyedepo said.
