Adeboye says 2027 Nigeria president already chosen by God

According to THE PUNCH, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has stated that the outcome of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election has already been determined by God, emphasizing that human efforts cannot override divine decision.

He made this known during a workers’ meeting held at Redemption City along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, where he spoke on national issues, leadership, and the role of divine authority in governance. According to him, the next president of Nigeria is not subject to uncertainty from a spiritual perspective, as God already has control over the nation’s direction.

Adeboye explained that while political processes will still take place, the ultimate outcome will align with what God has already established. He stressed that Nigerians should not be consumed by fear or anxiety about political developments, especially as the country moves closer to another election cycle.

He added that although citizens are expected to participate in politics, they must also recognize that divine authority remains superior to human influence. In his words, political engagement does not cancel the belief that God remains in control of leadership transitions in the country. He further encouraged Nigerians to remain calm, prayerful, and peaceful as political activities increase ahead of 2027, noting that trust in God should remain central even in times of national uncertainty.

On issues of Christian leadership in Nigeria, Adeboye reacted to comments attributed to a cleric who reportedly described him, Bishop David Oyedepo, and Pastor William Kumuyi as “fathers of Christians in Nigeria.” He rejected the description, stating that he does not see himself as the spiritual father of all Christians in the country.

He clarified that he is only responsible for the Redeemed Christian Church of God and is content with that role, stressing that it is enough responsibility for him to manage. According to him, he has never aspired to be regarded as the father of all Christians in Nigeria.

Adeboye also pointed out that leadership over Christians nationally is structured under the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), explaining that the president of CAN serves as the recognized leader representing Christians across the country.

In addressing political perceptions surrounding the church, he dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting that the RCCG is aligned with or functions as an extension of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He rejected such assertions, insisting that the church maintains independence from political parties.

He explained that while RCCG does not engage in partisan politics, it has consistently spoken on issues affecting Nigerians, including economic hardship and governance matters. According to him, the church’s concern is focused on national welfare rather than political affiliation.

Adeboye also commented on civic engagement, stating that if the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria were to call for a peaceful protest over governance concerns, he would be willing to participate. He emphasized that such a decision would be based on principle and justice rather than political motivation.

He referenced past participation in protests, noting that he had previously been involved in demonstrations during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, indicating that his position is not tied to any particular government.

At the same time, he reiterated that RCCG maintains clear boundaries when it comes to political activity within its worship environment. He stated that while politicians are welcome to attend church services at the camp, they are not allowed to use the altar for campaigning or political speeches.

According to him, the church remains a place of worship and spiritual instruction, and must not be turned into a platform for political promotion regardless of the status or position of visitors.

Overall, Adeboye’s remarks touched on divine sovereignty over national leadership, the role of Christians in civic life, the structure of Christian leadership in Nigeria, and the importance of maintaining neutrality and discipline within religious spaces while still engaging responsibly with national issues.
