Pastor Okonkwo Faces Backlash Over ₦700,000 Matchmaking Plan
Lead Pastor of David’s Christian Centre and relationship coach, Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, has attracted mixed reactions after introducing a Christian matchmaking platform, Mentor To Marry.
The platform offers membership packages costing up to N700,000 annually. It is designed to help Christian singles pursue intentional relationships rooted in faith.
According to Vanguard News, the platform has sparked debate over the growing financial demands linked to modern relationships and marriage.
Okonkwo recently spoke against the growing financial demands in relationships, saying such expectations can make it harder for some young men to pursue genuine relationships. He reflected on how dating has changed over the years, saying financial expectations now feature more prominently when men approach women.
He also claimed that some men now feel pressured to pay rent, school fees, transportation costs, and other expenses before women take them seriously in relationships.

In another post promoting Mentor To Marry, Okonkwo said the platform was created for Christian singles who want to pursue meaningful and purposeful relationships.
I can assure you that many women are seeking genuine relationships, with several hoping to meet committed and godly men through our platform,” he said.
The matchmaking service differs from regular dating platforms. Prospective members must complete an eight-week programme before accessing the matchmaking service.
The programme combines mentoring, personal assessments and guided reflection. Membership on the platform does not guarantee that users will meet a life partner. The platform also prohibits harassment, fraud, catfishing and sexually explicit content. For those unable or unwilling to pay for the packages, the platform reportedly provides a free community option.
However, the N700,000 membership fee has become a major point of discussion online. Some Nigerians questioned whether the cost defeats the purpose of making Christian matchmaking accessible to singles.

@gatsegwasiPhD wrote, “Don’t you see how you are contradicting yourself? You say rships are commercialised and men who don’t have money should still pay 700k to meet “godly” women? So tell me who has such amount if not rich men? What’s the difference between this and what pimps do?”
Another user, @DaraMoren1, criticized the platform’s pricing structure, writing, “Relationship has been so commercialised nowadays” yet you went ahead to commercialize it. Mentor to Marry price list has Reg, Premium & VIP.”
However, not all reactions were negative.
The debate has continued across social media, with Nigerians discussing the cost of Christian matchmaking and the wider financial pressures surrounding dating and marriage.
