Presidential Aide Calls for Halt of Mountain Prayers in Kwara, Kogi
According to Punch News, The Presidency has called for the temporary suspension of “Ori Oke” prayer gatherings in parts of Kwara and Kogi States, citing heightened security risks in isolated and forested areas.
The appeal was issued on Monday through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the North Central, Abiodun Essiet. The advisory comes amid growing concern over the use of remote locations for religious activities in regions facing security challenges.
“Ori Oke,” a Yoruba expression meaning “mountain top,” refers to prayer retreats commonly held on hills and in forest environments, where worshippers gather for spiritual sessions believed to deepen their connection with God.
In the statement, the Presidency urged religious groups to avoid such venues for now, warning that they have increasingly been identified as potential hideouts for criminal groups, including armed bandits.
The office stressed that the directive is temporary and aimed at reducing exposure to avoidable danger while security operations continue in affected areas.

It added that while faith and worship remain important, safety must take priority in the current security climate. According to the statement, religious practices are not restricted, as worship can be conducted in safer and more secure environments.
The Presidency also appealed for cooperation from religious leaders and residents in Kwara and Kogi States, noting that security agencies are actively working to stabilize vulnerable communities across the North Central region.
It encouraged compliance with the advisory, stating that collective support from the public would help security personnel reduce criminal activity and protect lives.
Residents were further urged to remain alert and share timely information with security agencies. The statement emphasized that vigilance and cooperation are essential to improving safety in affected areas.
The Presidency described the move as a precautionary step designed to safeguard worshippers while ongoing security operations continue in forests and remote locations often used for large gatherings.
