CAN calls for Swift Justice after Palms Sunday Killing in Jos
The Christian Association of Nigeria has condemned the killing of residents during the Palm Sunday attack in Jos. The group described the incident as painful and unacceptable. It said the tragedy shows how unsafe many communities have become. According to the association, innocent lives were lost on a day meant for peace and worship.
In a statement released on Monday, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh expressed deep concern over the continued loss of lives. He noted that the attack happened during a sacred period for Christians. Instead of celebration and reflection, families were thrown into grief and fear. As a result, many residents now feel anxious about their safety.
According to reports, gunmen stormed the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North on March 29, 2026. Witnesses said the attackers wore uniforms that looked like those of security officers. Shortly after arriving, they opened fire on residents. Within minutes, lives were lost and several families were left in shock and mourning.

Furthermore, CAN said the incident has raised serious questions about public safety across the country. Many citizens now worry about their security, even during important religious events. Therefore, the group stressed that people deserve to feel safe in their homes and places of worship at all times.
The association also called on the government to move beyond words of sympathy. It urged security agencies to act quickly and find those responsible for the attack. CAN insisted that justice must be served without delay. It explained that holding the attackers accountable will help rebuild trust and prevent similar violence in the future.
Meanwhile, the group acknowledged efforts by the Plateau State Government. However, it maintained that stronger and lasting security measures are still needed to protect communities. In addition, CAN advised churches and residents to stay alert during the Holy Week. It encouraged worshipers to work closely with local authorities and look out for one another. Ultimately, the association said the country must act now to stop the cycle of violence and protect innocent lives.
