Big Bolaji Bows Out: Gospel Icon Laid To Rest In Ibadan
Today, family and friends gather in Ibadan to bid farewell to a beloved legend, Bolaji Olarewaju, widely known as Big Bolaji or Big B. The gospel minister, pastor, and singer passed away on April 19 at the age of 50, following a brief illness. His unexpected departure has left many in mourning and reflection across Nigeria and beyond.
An indigene of Osun State, Big Bolaji was more than a gifted vocalist; he was a vessel of worship, a mentor to many, and a passionate servant of God. He rose to prominence as a member of the legendary Midnight Crew, a gospel music group that helped shape contemporary worship in Nigeria. His unique voice and energetic style became a hallmark of the group’s sound and spirit.
Beyond music, Big Bolaji was a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), where he ministered with deep conviction and unwavering faith. His life was a living testament to the power of praise, and his ministry became a source of strength and joy for thousands.
His younger brother, Muyiwa Olarewaju, a fellow gospel artist and respected broadcaster, announced the funeral arrangements on Instagram. In a heartfelt post, the family extended an open invitation to celebrate a life dedicated to God.
“In loving memory”, the post read. “Join us to celebrate the life and legacy of Bolaji Olarewaju (Big B), a true Christian whose voice touched souls and whose faith inspired millions.”
The tributes began on Sunday, May 26, with a Service of Songs at Trinity House in Lagos. On Monday, May 27, friends, family, and admirers gathered in Ibadan for a vibrant Celebration of Life at Jogor Centre.

These events are more than ceremonial farewells; they are a tribute to a man who made worship his lifestyle, who lived what he sang, and who poured himself into the service of God and humanity.
Though Big Bolaji’s earthly journey has ended, his voice continues to echo in the hearts of worshippers, his ministry lives on through those he mentored, and his legacy of praise will never be forgotten.
