PFN Clarifies National Prayer Not Linked to Pastor Adeboye

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has rejected reports linking a recent nationwide prayer programme to the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) or its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, describing the claims as false, misleading, and baseless.

According to The Punch, PFN issued the clarification through its National Secretary, Bishop David Bakare, who said the initiative was conceived, organized, and executed entirely under the authority of the fellowship.

Bakare stated that it was wrong to associate the programme with Pastor Adeboye or RCCG. He stressed that PFN independently designed and implemented the exercise without influence from any individual church or external body.

He explained that RCCG, alongside other participating churches, only joined the programme as members of the Pentecostal Fellowship and followed directives issued by PFN leadership.

According to him, all instructions, operational guidelines, and decisions originated strictly from PFN structures. He rejected any suggestion that an external personality or organisation shaped or influenced the programme.

Bakare further clarified that the timing of the final day of the programme, which coincided with Pentecost Sunday, aligned with a global Christian observance rather than any church-specific agenda within Nigeria.

Christians worldwide across denominations celebrate Pentecost, and these gatherings reflect a broader spiritual expression rather than a single denominational event.

He also disclosed that PFN initially considered including public processions and symbolic actions such as placards during the programme but suspended those plans due to security concerns.

The fellowship said it proceeded with a prayer-focused national exercise aimed at interceding for Nigeria amid worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and growing political tension ahead of the 2027 elections.

Bakare stated that PFN was satisfied with the outcome of the programme. He added that critics remain free to organize lawful alternatives instead of circulating what he described as misinformation and unfounded allegations.

PFN also called on Christians and Nigerians to reject divisive narratives and to support unity, peace, and national progress across the country.

Earlier in May, PFN had announced a three-day nationwide fasting and prayer programme over rising insecurity, bloodshed, economic hardship, and concerns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Chairman of PFN in Kwara State, Rev. O.T. Opatola, also urged political leaders to shift attention from electoral ambitions and focus on tackling killings, banditry, and terrorism affecting different parts of the country.
