TOPIC: OVERCOMING SEXUAL DENIAL IN MARRIAGE
MEMORISE
The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does (1 Corinthians 7:4).
READ: 1 Corinthians 7:3-5
[3]. Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband.
[4]. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.
[5]. Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
EXPOSITION
Sexual intimacy is an important part of healthy marriage, showing love, trust, and commitment. Neglecting or denying this area of a relationship can lead to feelings of rejection, frustration, or emotional distance. The Bible teaches that husbands and wives should fulfil each other’s sexual needs willingly and lovingly (1 Corinthians 7:3-5). This is not just a physical act but an expression of care and unity.
Sexual denial often has deeper causes such as stress, emotional hurts, unresolved arguments, or other personal struggles. These issues should be addressed honestly and carefully. Open communication is key to understanding each other’s needs and finding solutions. Take time to listen to your spouse’s feelings and avoid blame. Approach the issue with patience, empathy, and prayer, asking God to help resolve conflicts, and remove emotional barriers.
PREVIOUS DEVOTIONAL
It is also important to prioritise both emotional and spiritual connection, as these strengthen intimacy. Build a loving and supportive environment where both partners feel valued and understood. With God’s guidance, obstacles to intimacy can be overcome, and your marriage can be restored to greater unity and joy.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, heal any wounds or struggles affecting intimacy in marriages.
2. Lord, help couples to show patience and love as they strengthen their bond.
3. Almighty God, teach couples to communicate with understanding and overcome challenges together.
