Bishop Clarifies No Rift With Adeboye Over Marriage Advice

According to PUNCH, a senior cleric, Bishop Osazee Williams, has clarified reports suggesting a disagreement with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, over recent comments on marriage advice. The clarification comes after public reactions to his earlier remarks were widely interpreted as opposition to the respected church leader.

Williams explained that his statements were misinterpreted and did not amount to any disagreement with Adeboye. According to him, his intention was to encourage deeper understanding of spiritual teachings and not to challenge or contradict the message shared by the RCCG leader.

The controversy began after Adeboye’s advice to men regarding marriage expectations, particularly on choosing a spouse who can cook, sparked discussions among Christians online. Williams had responded by questioning how such guidance aligns with biblical teachings, noting that not all principles are explicitly stated in scripture.

However, the bishop later clarified that his comments were meant to broaden understanding rather than oppose the teaching. He also acknowledged that Adeboye’s position may be rooted in deeper spiritual insight that goes beyond ordinary interpretation.

“For Daddy Adeboye to say that, he must have heard or seen things beyond the ordinary,” Williams was quoted as saying, stressing that his remarks were not intended as opposition but as an expansion of discussion within a Christian context.

He further emphasized that his goal was to encourage responsible leadership within Christian families and to ensure that spiritual messages are interpreted with balance and discernment. According to him, misunderstanding of such statements can easily lead to unnecessary controversy among believers.

Williams also reiterated that there was no rift between him and Adeboye, stating clearly that his earlier comments were taken out of context. He maintained that unity within the Christian community remains essential, especially when addressing sensitive topics such as marriage and family life.

“There was no disagreement whatsoever. What I said was not in opposition to Daddy G.O, but to expand understanding,” he said, adding that believers must be careful not to misrepresent spiritual messages shared by church leaders.

He urged Christians and the general public to avoid amplifying perceived divisions among church leaders, noting that their shared mission is to guide believers toward spiritual growth and responsible living.

The clarification has helped to ease tensions surrounding the debate, redirecting attention to the importance of unity, humility, and proper interpretation of teachings within the Christian faith.
