Tinubu Seeks Peace as Lent and Ramadan Commence Together
President Bola Tinubu has called on Christians and Muslims to embrace peace and unity as Lent and Ramadan commence on the same day this year.
In a statement personally signed and released on Wednesday, the Nigerian leader described the simultaneous start of the two major religious observances as rare. He said the overlap presents a meaningful opportunity for national reflection and solidarity.
According to the President, the coincidence highlights shared values between followers of Christianity and Islam. He noted that despite differences in doctrine, both faiths emphasize devotion to God, discipline, compassion, and moral responsibility.

Lent, observed by Christians, marks a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and repentance leading up to Easter. The season reflects the biblical account of Jesus Christ’s time of fasting in the wilderness before His crucifixion.
Ramadan, observed by Muslims worldwide, is a month of fasting from dawn to sunset. It is one of the five pillars of Islam and focuses on spiritual growth, charity, and submission to the will of God.
President Tinubu urged Nigerians participating in either observance to promote harmony within their communities. He encouraged citizens to demonstrate good neighborliness and to pray for the country’s stability and development.
He also appealed for adherence to the moral teachings of both faiths. Living out those principles, he said, would strengthen social cohesion and national unity.
The President expressed hope that the spiritual lessons drawn from both Lent and Ramadan would inspire renewed commitment to peace and mutual respect across the country.
The rare alignment of the two sacred seasons comes at a time when Nigeria continues to navigate economic and security challenges. The President’s message underscores the role of faith communities in fostering dialogue and reinforcing shared national values.
