Ministry Deserves Value, Tim Godfrey Insists

Award winning gospel singer Tim Godfrey has spoken in support of gospel artists who charge fees for their performances. He stated that ministry should not mean working without fair compensation and that the value of their work deserves recognition.

In a recent social media post, the Nara singer addressed a common belief that gospel musicians should perform for free simply because their work is spiritual.

Gospel music is also professional work

Godfrey explained that gospel artists, like pastors and event organizers, make significant investments in rehearsals, production, travel, and other costs. He said that these efforts require financial support to be sustainable.

People freely pay secular artists large amounts, yet many expect gospel singers to minister without any form of payment, he said.

Godfrey recalls early struggles

Reflecting on the early days of his career, Godfrey shared how he was sometimes paid with food instead of money. On some occasions, he received tubers of yam or even a live chicken after singing at church events.

He described those experiences as humiliating but defining moments that taught him to place proper value on his work.

Charging fees does not reduce spiritual impact

Godfrey clarified that charging fees does not make gospel musicians less spiritual or greedy. Instead, it reflects the need to maintain a standard of excellence and sustainability in ministry.

He stated that being paid for ministry does not remove the anointing. Rather, it allows the artist to continue the work effectively and with excellence.

A call for balance and respect

The gospel singer urged churches and event planners to treat gospel music as both spiritual and professional. He emphasized the need for a balanced view that honors both the calling and the craft of gospel music.

Investing in the future of gospel music

In conclusion, Godfrey said that honoring gospel artists with fair compensation is more than a reward. It is an investment in the growth and future of Christian music in Nigeria. Supporting gospel artists financially, he noted, will help raise the quality and impact of gospel music across the nation.
