Oyedepo: Be Humble, Someone Will Always Be Above You
Bishop David Oyedepo has reminded Christians of the need to remain humble, no matter how high they rise in life or ministry.
Speaking during a recent service, the founder of Living Faith Church said it would be foolish to think that success makes anyone greater than their mentors or spiritual fathers.
“I will be stupid to think that because we built one big sanctuary, I am above my seniors,” he said. “Be humble. There will always be people above you until you go to heaven.”
Oyedepo reflected on his decades-long relationships with great men of faith such as Kenneth Hagin, T.L. Osborn, Kenneth Copeland, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, and Archbishop Benson Idahosa. He described how their influence continues to shape his life and ministry even after many years.

“After 49 years, I’m still connected with Delight. The grandson of Kenneth Hagin still visits my house. My connection with Redemption Camp and Pastor Adeboye remains strong. My link with Benin, where Bishop Idahosa once stood, is unbroken,” he said.
The bishop emphasized that true spiritual growth comes from maintaining such divine connections. According to him, humility keeps believers rooted, while pride cuts them off from grace.
“Rivers don’t flow uphill,” he said. “Nothing from me adds to my mentors. It’s what flows from them that adds to me. Something from Hagin, Osborn, Copeland, Adeboye, and Idahosa has blessed my life. The higher vessel pours into the lower one.
He cautioned against arrogance, warning that no matter how accomplished a person becomes, they should never forget those who laid the foundation before them.
“Don’t boast against your root. You don’t bear the root; the root bears you,” he declared.
Reflecting on the lives of his mentors now in heaven, Oyedepo expressed deep reverence and gratitude.
“I remember the last time we saw T.L. Osborn. We waved goodbye in December; by February, he had gone to be with the Lord,” he said. “Life is short. Be awake. Don’t be docile. Christianity is a living faith.”
His message was a powerful call to humility, gratitude, and spiritual awareness. A reminder that no achievement erases the need for submission to those who came before.
