CAC DAILY DEVOTIONAL (THE LIVING WATER)

TOPIC: OUR EXAMPLE

MEMORISE: Though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered (Hebrews 5:8).

READ: Hebrews 5:7-11

[7]. who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear,

[8]. though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.

[9]. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,

[10]. called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,”

[11]. of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

EXPOSITION

A very effective learning strategy is learning by example. It avails the learner the opportunity to follow the teaching-learning process effectively to be able to reproduce the lesson taught. As Christ’s disciples, we are called to follow His example of obedience and submission.

He didn’t only show us the way, but also empowers us to walk in His footsteps. By the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit, we are equipped to live lives that are in synergy with Christ’s character of humility, obedience and sacrificial love.

Previous Devotional

Our text paints a serious portrait of Jesus as our ultimate Example of obedience and submission to God’s will. It portrays Jesus earthly life as one marked by prayers and supplications, with loud cries, tears and agony, as He endured the anguish of Gethsemane.

Yet, in His agony, He remained steadfast in His commitment to fulfil the Father’s plan for salvation. As we ponder on Jesus’ example, we are confronted with the depth of His obedience and the sacrificial love that characterized His earthly ministry.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, inspire us to follow Jesus wholeheartedly.

2. May the life of Jesus be our beacon of hope, leading us to blessing through obedience, in Jesus’ name.

3. Heavenly Father, help us surrender to Your plan like Jesus did, trusting Your faithfulness to guide us.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:

CAC GHB: 524

1. I want to be like Jesus,
So lowly and so meek,
For no one marked an angry word
That ever heard Him speak.

2. I want to be like Jesus,
So frequently in prayer;
Alone upon the mountain-top,
He met His Father there.

3. I want to be like Jesus,
I never, never find
That He, though persecuted, was
To any one unkind.

4. I want to be like Jesus,
Engaged in doing good,
So that of me it may be said,
“She hath done what she could.”

5. I want to be like Jesus,
Who sweetly said to all,
“Let little children come to Me.”
I would obey the call.

6. But oh, I’m not like Jesus,
As any one may see;
Then, gentle Saviour, send Thy Grace,
And make me like to Thee.
Amen.
