Pastor William Schonemann Murdered In Arizona Home
The peaceful town of New River has been rocked by the tragic and disturbing death of Pastor William Schonemann, 76. The long-time pastor of New River Bible Chapel was found dead in his home on the evening of Monday, April 29, 2025. Authorities have ruled the death a homicide, and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is actively investigating.
Deputies responded to a call at 7:31 p.m. and discovered Schonemann’s body inside his residence. According to a statement released to The Christian Post on Wednesday, investigators observed clear signs of foul play, though specific details remain limited due to the ongoing investigation.
Citing unnamed sources, Fox 10 Phoenix reported graphic claims that Pastor Schonemann had sustained significant injuries and was found in a particularly disturbing position. These details have not been confirmed by MCSO.
Sgt Joaquin Enriquez, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, emphasised the department’s commitment to the case:
“Our thoughts are with Mr. Schonemann’s loved ones as we continue our efforts to bring justice in this case. MCSO detectives are actively investigating and following all leads. We will share more information with the public as soon as it becomes available.”
Authorities believe the murder to be an isolated incident and have not released any suspect information at this time.

Pastor Schonemann’s son, Randall, told AZ Central that the death came as a complete shock to the family. He declined to speak about the investigation but reflected on his father’s life and legacy.
A U.S. Navy veteran who served in Vietnam, William Schonemann turned to faith following his service. He became deeply involved with New River Bible Chapel and eventually served as its pastor for around 25 years. He remained committed to the church following the death of his wife, Crystal, in 2022 after 49 years of marriage.
Randall described his father as outgoing, mechanically skilled, and deeply caring:
“Our dad had such a positive impact on people everywhere he went. We will miss the loving guidance and patience. The happiness he showed just getting to walk around an airport getting his steps in. The creativity of all the machines he built. There are never enough words to say it all or to say it as well as a person would like. Simply, he is missed.”
As the investigation progresses, authorities urge anyone with information to come forward. The community remains hopeful for answers — and justice — in the days ahead.
