The Living Water Devotion for Today
True recognition doesn’t always come from the applause of men but from God’s commendation. The workers mentioned in Colossians 4:7-14 exemplify this truth: they faithfully served behind the scenes without seeking recognition. These silent labourers played crucial roles in advancing the gospel, offering comfort and support to fellow believers.
Although their efforts may have gone unnoticed by the world, God saw and valued their services. Similarly, our Heavenly Father sees every act of service done for His kingdom, no matter how small or unseen by others (Heb. 11:6).
As we reflect on these unsung heroes, let us remember that our labour in the Lord is never in vain (1 Cor. 15:58; Gal. 6:7ff). Even when our efforts go unnoticed by the world, let us know that God sees and rewards every act of faithful service, just like He did for Shiphrah and Puah (Exo. 1.21). Let us therefore serve with humility and dedication, knowing that our Heavenly Father is the ultimate source of recognition and reward. H appy International Day of the Midwife!
PRAYER POINTS
1. Gracious God, thank You for promising to remember our labour for Your name’s sake.
2. Lord, give us strength to persevere in our services, even when unnoticed, knowing You see and value these.
3. Father, help Your church workers to serve You more selflessly.
SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: Var. 25
8 7 8 7 & Ref
1. Must I go and be empty-handed?
Thus, my dear Redeemer meet?
Not one day of service was given to him?
Lay no trophy at His feet?
Chorus:
Must I go and be empty-handed?
Must I meet my Saviour so?
Not one soul with which to greet him?
Must I go empty-handed?
2. Not at death I shrink or falter.
For my Saviour saves me now.
But to meet him empty-handed
The thought of that now clouds my brow.
3. Oh, the years of sinning wasted!
Could I but recall them now?
I would give them to my Saviour.
To His will I’d gladly bow.
4. Up, ye saints, arouse, be earnest!
Up and work while yet ’tis day
Ere the night of death overtake you,
Strive for souls while yet you may.
Amen.
