Pastor Pleads Guilty To Hiding Camera In Church Bathroom

William Johnson, a former worship pastor at 2|42 Community Church in Brighton, Michigan, has pleaded guilty to 15 felony charges after admitting to secretly installing a camera in a church staff bathroom.

On April 14, 2024, the 38-year-old entered a guilty plea to charges that include child sexually abusive activity, possession of abusive material, unlawful surveillance, tampering with evidence, and computer-related crimes, according to MLive. His sentencing is set for May 22, 2024, and he could face up to 20 years in prison.

The investigation began after a staff member discovered a hidden camera in a bathroom used exclusively by church employees and volunteers. Authorities confirmed the restroom was not accessible to the general public. Johnson later confessed to church leaders that he had intermittently installed the camera over a two-year period, specifically targeting certain individuals.

In response, church leader Craig Ryan issued a message to the congregation expressing deep sorrow and betrayal: “We consider this a violation against our entire church.” Johnson was terminated from his role as pastor in September 2024.
He is currently being held at the Livingston County Jail with a bond set at $250,000 (£187,600).
