TOPIC:
CHILDREN SHOULD BE ROUNDLY EDUCATED

MEMORISE

My son, don’t forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands (Proverbs 3:1).

READ:
Proverbs 3:1-13

[1]. My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands;

[2]. For length of days and long life and peace they will add to you.

[3]. Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart,

[4]. And so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.

[5]. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;

[6]. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

[7]. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.

[8]. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.

[9]. Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the first fruits of all your increase;

[10]. So your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will overflow with new wine.

[11]. My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest His correction;

[12]. For whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights.

[13]. Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding;

EXPOSITION

That our Lord Jesus Christ created time for little children during His earthly ministry, despite His busy and tight schedules, underscores the significance of children ministry. Children grow to become youths, and later, adults. The implication here is that, if children aren’t well-trained in godliness, we should expect unstable and unreliable youthfulness and then, reckless adulthood. Hence, all stakeholders must take children’s training very important (Prov. 22:6). Today, we see a lot of youths who can be best described as misfits in the society, due to the missing link of godly training at the right time.

CHILDREN, LIVING

By contextual definition, children are those below the age of adolescence while youths fall between adolescence and adulthood. Children are very sensitive and fragile. Anything imparted earlier to them becomes part and parcel of their lives. Children are dependent, relying on, and looking up to older ones in, and for everything. A young man who is a chain-smoker confessed that he started smoking at age 8 while staying with an addict uncle! To help him stop this bad habit, he would need both God’s grace and human rehabilitation.

Children are very curious and want to learn a lot in a short time. They need godly, responsible mentors to guide them steadily. Parents must take the education of their children very seriously to forestall the menace of illiteracy. Both the secular and Christian education of your children must be prioritised. Don’t concentrate on spending so much on their schooling, leaving their souls famished.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord Jesus, help me to be proactive on the education of my children.

2. Lord Jesus, help our children to be cooperative as we wish them the best in life.

3. Lord, please guide parents to prioritise their children’s Christian and moral education, rather than solely focusing on secular education and material possessions.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY
CAC GHB: 525

1. Jesus loves me, this I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong,
They are weak, but He is strong.

Chorus:
Yes, Je-sus loves me!
Yes, Je-sus loves me!
Yes, Je-sus loves me!
The Bi-ble tells me so!

2. Jesus loves me, He Who died
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.

3. Jesus loves me, loves me still,
Though I’m very weak and ill;
From His shining throne on high
He will watch me where I lie.

4. Jesus loves me, He will stay
Close beside me all the way,
Then His little child will take
Up to Heav’n, for His dear sake.

Amen
