NDLEA Arrests Two Cocaine Pushers Posing As Hajj Pilgrims
Recently, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested two individuals who swallowed cocaine while posing as pilgrims headed for Hajj.
Brigadier General Buba Marwa, the NDLEA chairman, shared this alarming development during a government meeting focused on controlling drug abuse and trafficking.
These suspects pretended to be sincere Muslims fulfilling their religious duties. In reality, they were used as unwitting drug couriers. This incident is not isolated.

Marwa pointed out that during the Hajj season, drug traffickers often trick people into smuggling narcotics across borders. In one previous case, three women were deceived with promises of paid travel and asked to deliver bags sewn with cocaine to supposed relatives in Saudi Arabia—strangers they had never met.
The NDLEA’s fight against drug trafficking faces financial hurdles, as the full National Drug Control Master Plan is yet to be fully funded. Despite this, Marwa reassured that the agency remains steadfast in its mission to protect Nigerians and combat drug-related crimes.
As the Hajj season continues to draw pilgrims, awareness and vigilance become crucial. It’s a reminder that even sacred journeys can be targeted by criminal networks, and the need for increased security measures and public education is more urgent than ever.
