Kenya Airways defends its staff in altercation with Nigerian
Kenya Airways has responded to a viral video showing an altercation between one of its desk officers and a Nigerian passenger, Ms. Omisore G., at Nairobi Airport over an alleged delay.
The incident sparked a reaction from the Nigerian federal government. Tunde Moshood, a media aide to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, posted on social media accusing the airline of “inhuman treatment of Nigerian passengers in Nairobi.”
In its statement, Kenya Airways addressed the viral video, revealing that the altercation stemmed from the passenger’s lack of a required SCHENGEN visa. The airline explained that Ms. Omisore, who was travelling from Lagos to Nairobi, Paris, and Manchester, had arrived in Nairobi for her connecting flight to Paris.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that she did not have the necessary visa to enter any European Union country. The airline offered her an alternative route through London to Manchester, but she declined.
The statement continued, “We have established that the video does not provide full context. Unhappy with this option, the guest demanded accommodation, which Kenya Airways does not provide in cases where boarding is denied due to visa requirements. It is the responsibility of passengers to ensure they have the necessary documentation for their journey.”

Kenya Airways condemned the passenger’s behaviour, stating, “In a distressing turn of events, the guest resorted to inappropriate behaviour by removing and throwing 3 used sanitary pads at our employees. We strongly condemn such conduct.” The airline emphasised that all interactions should be based on mutual respect and that its employees deserve to work in a safe, dignified environment.
The airline further confirmed that the incident has been reported and is under investigation by the relevant security agencies. “We are committed to taking the necessary steps to ensure the well-being and safety of our employees and guests at all times,” the statement concluded.
