Franklin Graham Prays With Zelenskyy At Berlin Evangelism

Evangelist Franklin Graham revealed earlier this week that he had met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to pray for peace amid the ongoing war with Russia.

The announcement came during the European Congress on Evangelism, taking place this week in Berlin. The congress, organised by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, which Graham leads, has brought together over 1,000 evangelical leaders from 56 countries.

Speaking from the stage, Graham said the purpose of the meeting with Zelenskyy was to seek God’s guidance. He asked the Ukrainian leader for permission to pray, which he said Zelenskyy welcomed. Graham prayed for wisdom and a peaceful path forward.

“We need God’s help,” Graham told the delegates. “Only He can resolve this.”

The meeting came as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to cause widespread devastation. Graham acknowledged the complexity of the situation, describing it as one only God could untangle. He also shared that his ministry had earlier sent letters to both Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, encouraging a spiritual response to the war.

In his remarks, Graham also reflected on a previous meeting he had with Putin. Although the Russian leader listened respectfully, Graham said he likely found evangelical views unfamiliar. “Maybe it was the first time he’d ever heard anything like that,” Graham said.

After recounting his meeting with Zelenskyy, Graham invited the congress participants to join him in prayer. Delegates across the room lifted their voices in a collective moment of intercession.

Graham closed the prayer session by asking God to work in the hearts of leaders. He prayed specifically for Putin, Zelenskyy, and former U.S. President Donald Trump, who he said could play a role in encouraging dialogue.

The event followed a press conference on Monday where Graham had urged churches not to lose hope. When asked about the growing fear across Europe due to the war, he emphasised that prayer remains the church’s greatest weapon.

“Thousands have died, and more are suffering,” he said. “But there’s still room for peace if leaders will talk and seek God.”

The congress continues throughout the week, focusing on spreading the gospel across Europe amid growing uncertainty.
