Don’t Marry for Love, Choose Compatibility – Pastor Ayeni

Pastor Tunde Ayeni has advised singles to look beyond romantic feelings when deciding who to marry, stressing that marriage requires more than emotional attraction.

Speaking during a recent teaching, Ayeni challenged the belief that people should marry solely because they are in love.

He said singles should first consider whether they can build a stable life with their potential partner before making the decision to marry.

“Do not marry the person you love. Choose the person you can live with, then decide to love them,” he said.

According to the pastor, marriage involves responsibilities that extend beyond romantic emotions. He encouraged singles to examine important qualities such as character, compatibility, values and maturity.

Ayeni also stressed the importance of choosing someone with whom a person can build a sustainable life. He suggested that emotional attraction should not be the only factor guiding the decision.

His comments have generated discussions about the place of love and compatibility in marriage. While some people agreed that emotions can change over time, others argued that genuine love remains an important part of a healthy relationship.

The teaching also highlighted the difference between romantic feelings and the commitment required to sustain a marriage. Couples may experience different emotions throughout their relationship, making communication and mutual respect essential.

Friendship and shared values can also help couples navigate challenges that may arise after marriage. Ayeni’s message therefore encourages singles to consider the broader realities of married life before choosing a spouse.

His advice ultimately centres on making a thoughtful decision rather than allowing temporary emotions to determine a lifelong commitment.
