A Mother’s Grip: Holding Her Son Amidst the Jos Crisis

Grief has engulfed Jos following a deadly attack in Angwa Rukuba during Palm Sunday, leaving dozens feared dead and many others injured. The sudden outbreak of violence shattered what should have been a quiet and reflective period for residents.

According to eyewitnesses, gunmen stormed the community without warning, opening fire and sending people fleeing in different directions. The chaos forced families out of their homes, as fear and confusion spread rapidly across the area.

Amid the panic, one emotional scene stood out a mother clutching her young son tightly as she tried to escape. Witnesses said she appeared terrified but remained determined, holding the child firmly as though her grip alone could keep him safe.

A video circulating after the attack shows the same woman holding her child, who appeared severely injured or possibly lifeless. Her expression captured a depth of grief that words can hardly describe, turning her into a symbol of the pain many families are now facing.

As the community mourns, attention has shifted beyond casualty figures to the human cost of the tragedy. Residents are calling for urgent and lasting solutions to the violence in Plateau State, hoping such scenes will not be repeated.
