Rev Sam Aboyeji Urges Christians to Get PVCs, Vote in 2027

The General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Rev. Sam Aboyeji, has urged Nigerians, especially Christians, to take an active role in the 2027 general election.

Aboyeji called on citizens to register to vote, obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate fully in the electoral process. He made the call during a press briefing ahead of the church’s 13th Annual Public Lecture and 71st Annual National Convention.

The public lecture, themed “Building to Last: Faith, Infrastructure and the Future of a Nation,” will hold on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at The Marquee, Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The church’s 71st Annual National Convention will take place from October 7 to 11 at the Foursquare Campground in Ajebo, Ogun State. Apostle Michael Orokpo and Pastor Wole Oladiyun are among the ministers expected to speak at the convention.

Aboyeji said the church wants Christians to become more involved in politics because voter apathy has allowed less qualified people to occupy positions of leadership.

He urged Nigerians to reject the belief that politics is inherently dirty. Instead, he described political participation as a civic responsibility. “We must let people know that they must have their voter cards,” Aboyeji said.

He recalled that some Christians previously avoided politics because they believed it was a dirty game. According to him, that approach allowed people with questionable competence to take control of governance.

“In the past, we taught people that politics was a dirty game, and many people who would have been useful to the system stayed away,” he said. Aboyeji said the church now wants to reverse that trend.

“When you are wise and too clever to participate in politics, idiots will rule over you. That is what we are now trying to undo,” he said.

The cleric, however, stressed that the church would not tell members which candidates to support. Instead, he said Christians should exercise their constitutional rights and vote according to their convictions.

He urged citizens to take responsibility for the political direction of the country by participating in elections and making informed choices at the ballot box.
