TOPIC: CHRISTLESS JOURNEY

MEMORISE

So, when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him (Luke 2:45).

READ: Luke 2:42-51

[42]. And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast.

[43]. When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it;

[44]. but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances.

[45]. So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him.

[46]. Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.

[47]. And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.

[48]. So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.”

[49]. And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”

[50]. But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.

[51]. Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart.

EXPOSITION

Today’s devotional reflects on the story of the twelve-year-old Jesus who stayed behind in the temple while Mary and Joseph unknowingly left for home. After a day of travel, they realised He was missing and returned to find Him in deep discussion with the teachers.

This story teaches us the dangers of a Christless journey. Mary and joseph assumed Jesus was with them, but when they realised He wasn’t, they felt anxious and lost. In life, we can also assume Christ is guiding our decisions, only to find that we have been moving forward without Him.

A journey without Christ leads to confusion and a lack of peace. When Mary and Joseph found Jesus, He was focused on His mission in His Father’s house. This reminds us that true meaning and direction come when we return to Christ.

Are we seeking His guidance in everything we do? Let us commit to walking closely with Jesus each day, so that we can continually find peace and purpose in His presence.

CACGHB: 431

L M

1. Jesus shall reign where’er the sun

Doth his successive journeys run;

His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,

Till moons shall wax and wane no more

2. For Him shall endless prayer be made,

And praises throng to crown His head;

His name like sweet perfume shall rise

With every morning sacrifice.

3. People and realms of every tongue

Dwell on His love with sweetest song;

And infant voices shall proclaim

Their young hosannas to His name.

4. Blessings abound where’er He reigns;

The prisoner leaps to lose his chains;

The weary find eternal rest;

And all the sons of want are blest.

5. Let every creature rise, and bring

Its grateful honours to our king;

Angels descend with songs again,

And earth prolong

Amen.
