Bishop Oyedepo Launches Covenant University Medical College

Bishop Oyedepo Launches Covenant University Medical College

Barely twelve days after the groundbreaking ceremony for a new College of Law, another major expansion has begun at Covenant University. This morning, the Chancellor, David Oyedepo, leads the foundation laying ceremony for an ultra modern Medical College. The development signals a fresh phase in the institution’s rapid academic growth and long term vision for national impact.

The announcement follows the recent launch of the College of Law, a project described by the university leadership as a strategic response to gaps within Nigeria’s legal education system. During that ceremony, Oyedepo stressed the urgent need to raise ethical and competent professionals who can strengthen the nation’s justice sector. Now, attention has quickly shifted to medical education, another area widely seen as critical to national development.

Interestingly, the Medical College project fulfils a promise first revealed during Shiloh 2025, the annual gathering of Living Faith Church Worldwide. At the time, Oyedepo told worshippers that expansion plans would unfold according to divine direction. Earlier proposals had been paused for years as he insisted on waiting for what he described as clear spiritual instruction. According to church officials, that moment has now arrived.

Speaking during the Law College inauguration, the Chancellor reflected on the university’s remarkable journey since receiving its operating license on February 12, 2002. Critics once dismissed the young institution as a glorified secondary school. However, steady investment in infrastructure and academic standards has changed that perception. Today, Covenant University consistently ranks among the top institutions in Nigeria and West Africa. Recent global assessments, including sustainability rankings, continue to highlight its strong performance.

University leaders say the twin projects represent more than expansion. They believe the new colleges will help close professional gaps in both law and healthcare. The Pro Chancellor, Faith Oyedepo, described the development as a fulfilment of the institution’s declared year of Open Doors. She also noted the symbolic importance of February 12, the same date the university received approval more than two decades ago.

Meanwhile, members of the Board of Regents expressed confidence in the vision behind the projects. The board secretary, Banji Baruwa, called the initiative divinely timed and predicted that the colleges would compete among the best in Nigeria and beyond. Similarly, Vice Chancellor Professor Timothy Anake described the Law College as the beginning of a transformative era. He believes the Medical College will further strengthen the university’s commitment to leadership training and professional excellence.

Construction work on both colleges is expected to move quickly, with completion targeted within one year. Observers say the pace reflects Oyedepo’s well known drive for execution and long term planning. Yet the expansion comes while attention remains fixed on another ambitious undertaking, the Ark Legacy Project, widely described as one of the world’s largest and most advanced worship auditoriums. The massive structure has reached its roofing stage, with engineers recording significant progress.

As the foundation is laid today, many stakeholders see the moment as another bold step in Covenant University’s evolving story. From modest beginnings to global recognition, the institution continues to pursue influence through education, innovation, and faith driven leadership. For observers and supporters alike, the question now is not whether expansion will continue, but what vision may emerge next.
