Gospel Music Can Heal Nigeria, Pastor Declares

Gospel music has the power to heal wounds, restore hope, and inspire national renewal, according to Lagos based cleric and gospel singer Richard Tochukwu. He believes spirit filled songs can influence both the spiritual and social direction of Nigeria at a time many citizens seek comfort and unity.

The Senior Pastor of Freedom Life International Christian Center spoke while presenting his latest worship single, I Want To Pray, a prayer centered song designed to encourage believers to stay connected to God through consistent fellowship.
According to him, gospel music goes beyond entertainment. He described it as a spiritual instrument capable of calming troubled hearts and guiding people toward positive change. He added that songs inspired by Scripture often carry messages that preaching alone may not fully express.

He explained that the new single draws inspiration from the biblical call to remain steadfast in prayer. The song, produced by Audio5, reflects hope, perseverance, and trust in God despite challenges.

Speaking about his creative process, Tochukwu said most of his songs come directly from studying or teaching the Bible. Often, a melody forms while he meditates or prepares sermons. At other times, inspiration comes during personal prayer moments. Scripture, he stressed, remains the foundation of every lyric he writes.

The cleric also reflected on his early journey in ministry. He began as a drummer who loved singing. However, he later sensed a deeper calling when songs started coming to him regularly. Over time, he understood that music could serve as another pulpit.
A spiritual son of Paul Enenche, Tochukwu said divine instruction shaped his music ministry. He believes songs can preach the same message as sermons and reach people in ways spoken words sometimes cannot.
Now serving in Lagos, he continues to combine pastoral leadership with music outreach. Both the audio and video versions of the song are available on major digital platforms, extending his message of prayer and hope to a wider audience.
