Bishop Abioye Blames Poor Leadership on Lack of Reading
Bishop David Abioye has attributed Nigeria’s poor leadership to the lack of reading culture among those in power. The respected cleric said many leaders in the country are uninformed because they fail to engage in personal study or seek enlightenment.
Speaking during a sermon, Abioye lamented that most public officials spend their time talking rather than reading. He recounted experiences on international flights where lawmakers and top officials spent hours chatting instead of using the time to read or learn something new.
“I have been on flights with some of them,” he said. “Six hours in the air, and all they do is talk, chatting about cars, travels, and trivial things. No reading at all.”

The bishop, who serves as the First Vice President of Living Faith Church Worldwide, also criticized the lack of intellectual preparation among policymakers. He said many attend cabinet meetings without proper understanding of the issues at hand and simply approve whatever is presented.
Abioye further extended his criticism to the church, noting that some preachers mount the pulpit without revelation or insight. “If after any service the people leave without something tangible, then I have failed,” he said. “I sit down and read until something changes within me. That is what I give to Gods people.”
He urged leaders and ministers alike to cultivate a habit of continuous learning, saying true transformation begins with knowledge and understanding.
