Woli Arole Warns Nigerians After Prayer Mountain Scam
Nigerian comedian and actor, Bayegun Oluwatoyin, popularly known as Woli Arole, has issued a strong warning to the public about the need for discernment when helping others, following a personal experience where he was scammed.
The comedian recounted how he was defrauded by a man he encountered on a prayer mountain. According to Arole, the man approached him after a programme, claiming that he had secured a visa and only needed financial assistance to complete his travel arrangements.
Sharing his experience, Arole said:
“If you’re in the act of helping people, be careful how you help. Be led when you want to help. I finished a programme on the mountain one day and a guy came to meet me: ‘Woli, I have my visa, na travelling remain. You were the one who prayed for me. Your prayer dey work. Na trip remain. I don gather small money. I need like N200k’.”

Moved by compassion and the desire to help, Arole said he and his team provided the man with the requested sum. The man even assured them he was traveling the following night.
However, just a week later, during another programme in Ibadan, Arole and his team were shocked to see the same man casually dining at an Amala joint.
“We love to help, and so we gave this boy some money. He said, ‘Baba, I am travelling. I am going tomorrow night.’ A week later, we had another programme in Ibadan and decided to sit at an Amala joint. There, we saw this same guy eating goat meat.”
Arole said he confronted the man, who couldn’t provide a convincing explanation as to why he hadn’t travelled. He expressed frustration at how frequently people make up stories to get money from others.
He concluded by reiterating the need to be spiritually guided before offering help, emphasizing that not everyone who claims to be in need is genuine.
