Why I stopped having female Secretaries – Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has explained why he no longer employs female secretaries.

The cleric shared the reason during a sermon at the Holy Ghost Congress 2025 held at the Redemption Camp in Ogun State.

According to him, the decision was a personal one rooted in self awareness and spiritual discipline. He said he understood his weaknesses before he gave his life to Christ and chose to avoid situations that could create temptation.

Pastor Adeboye recalled that he once worked with a female secretary while serving in Lagos. He described her as a committed Christian and a responsible worker. However, he said the nature of his work often required late nights in the office, sometimes into the early hours of the morning.

He explained that the possibility of being alone at night with a member of the opposite sex made him uncomfortable. He said that even innocent situations could become a trap and that wisdom demanded clear boundaries.

Using the biblical story of Jonah, he described such situations as distractions that must be removed to stay aligned with God’s purpose. He said anything that could derail a person’s destiny must be cut off, no matter how harmless it appears.

The church leader also shared experiences involving other pastors. He said one young pastor approached him for advice after noticing an emotional attachment to his secretary. He advised the pastor to let her go immediately. According to him, the pastor obeyed and later grew into a respected minister.

He contrasted this with another case involving a pastor who ignored similar counsel. He said the pastor later lost his position, married the secretary and went on a different path that ended badly.

Pastor Adeboye said these examples were lessons on discipline and obedience. He warned that unchecked emotions and unhealthy relationships could destroy years of calling and sacrifice.

He also urged Christians to examine their relationships carefully. He said friendships or associations that do not draw a person closer to God should be reconsidered. According to him, ending such relationships can be an act of wisdom and even help both parties in the long run.

The cleric stressed that spiritual growth often requires difficult decisions. He encouraged believers to remove anything that could stand between them and their purpose.

The message has since sparked conversations online, with many seeing it as a call for accountability and personal discipline among faith leaders and believers alike.
